1984 Season

Matching their "best previous finish in conference," the Girl's Cross Country
Team strode out with second place in the DPVL. Third place awards from both the Niles West and Rich Central Invitationals lent an added sparkle to their trophy case. Highlighting the team's achievements, three of the fifteen runners earned All-Conference standing: senior Karyn Verdak (3), junior Kim Erikson (12), and sophomore Carrie Faber (2). Although the team did not advance to sectionals as a whole, MVP Carrie Faber qualified individually for the IHSA Competition. Next season, however, half of the top eight runners have graduated, a fact which Coach Mike Madsen faced with optimistic determinism: "We will have two All-Conference runners back to lead the way next year. And, if our freshmen can avoid injuries they experienced this year, then we should be quite competitive again."
