1990 Season

Head Coach: Mike Madsen

Cross country is a very challenging sport. Participants must endure a lot of pain and discomfort. “The most important requirements to be good at cross country are dedication and willingness to work through discomfort combined with a positive mental attitude,” said Coach Michael Madsen, the girls varsity coach. Coach Madsen feels that participation in sports is important. “I think it provides for a more well-rounded experience in high school,” he said. He felt that students may experience some success in cross country not found in ocher areas. Additionally, he noted that the sport provides a good release from tensions of the day.

One advantage of cross country is that it is a sport anyone can participate in. "We don't cut anyone from the team,” Coach Madsen stated. "Everyone who works at it will see progress,” he said. The effort the girls' team members enabled them to place third at conference. Rana Kreterfield, Christine Laggos, Leigh Krietsch, and Heather Lingane were named All Conference. The team selected Rana Kreterfield, consistently the top runner, most valuable player.
