Hinsdale South Cross Country

1986 Season

Head Coach: Mike Madsen

Being a member of the Girls Cross Country team is not an east task, though it is quite rewarding. During the season, the girls ran a daily double work-out at 6:30 in the morning and after school until 5:30. Coach Mike "Rock" Madsen is the motivation for this fleet group of Hornet thin-clads.

Running on the team requires this kind of tough preparation. The races, usually held at Kathryn Legge Memorial Park, were two miles in length. The long hours of practice obviously paid off, as the girls ended their season at 7-1, strong enough to put them in second place.

The Hinsdale South team was in the running for the championship trophy until the last week of the season. They proved their ability when they upset a strongly regarded Willowbrook team. Their only loss was to a very impressive Downers Grove South squad.

Carre Faber could always be counted on to place strongly for the team. She went on to represent the Hornet in sectional competition. Coach Madsen was very pleased with the effort of all the girls, and hopes to see a large turnout of veteran runners next season.
