1998 Season

Mud, rain, and a bit of singing was all we needed for an unbelievable conference record. We placed 2nd out of seven teams in the WSC, with eleven returning seniors. With the addition of Kate Kaminski we were on our way to success.

 

We began the season in July with Mr. Duvall's camp giving us the first step to build our confidence. Continuing on we started building up our strength and running ability for the upcoming season, we freshman Kate Kaminski setting a new record at the Hornet/Red Devil Invitational. From there on we began to build with great team practices. Of course, it wasn't always easy, with the temptation of Dairy Queen right around the corner. It was times like this when our captains, Anjali Iyengar, Liz Duvall, and Natalie Kong, came through and showed us what being a team means.

 

However, it wasn't just the talent and strength that helped us this season. We were all incredibly close and had some memorable moments together, from the tee-peeing trip to Mr. Karnstedt's house to painting mud on our stomachs. I know that all of the three years that I've been on cross country I will definitely remember this the most.

"It was disappointing to be hurt for most of the season, especially since it was my senior year and I wanted it to be my best. But being on the team was still a great experience because of the close relationships we formed." - Bianca Taylor

 

"The Hornets matched their best-ever finishes in conference, regional, and sectional meets. A big part of our success was due to the great leadership of our senior runners, who were fine role models as athletes and as students. They set high standards for our future runners to follow. We also matched our greatest number of All-Conference runners (6). In addition, the JV squad was undefeated." - Coach Mike Madsen
