For the 24th consecutive year, varsity girls cross country placed in the top three in conference, with a second place this year. Danielle Mutters became only our second freshman ever to qualify for the state cross country meet. A first for girls cross country was that all seven of the varsity runners earned all-conference honors.
"Varsity had a tradition that before meets we would gather in a circle and chant 'Buzz, buzz, sting, sting, go Hornets go' and Coach Esko would be in the middle doing a tripod," said team co-captain Andrea Dennison. The team was really close this year, said Dennison. "We got together over the summer to practice, had pasta parties before all of the meets, and we were all really close friends. Besides just moral support for each other, the team had a dedicated group of fans."
"We have a great group of parents that give us a tremendous amount of help at our home meets and are dedicated followers when we are on the road," said Coach Michael Madsen.
The most memorial events for the team were the JV team being undefeated, having two one-point losses against Downers Grove South, and winning three Saturday invitationals in a row. "This was a very successful year. We have a great group of runners and they won an unprecedented number of team trophies for our three levels of competition," concluded Coach Madsen.
