The girls cross country team advanced to the Sectionals for the first time in school history. [Coach Miller's note: the team actually made Sectionals 12 times in the past]

Individually, every girl worked hard to help the team accomplish goals that they had never even thought were possible. Freshman newcomer Meagan DeSalvo really helped push the team to their limits. Meagan ended up advancing to one extra race, the State Meet. This was the biggest thing to hit the team since running shoes were invented.

At Conference the Lady Hornets placed third, losing to DGS and Willowbrook. While Willowbrook offered tough competition in the season - the Hornets lost by three points. However the Hornets beat Willowbrook in both Regionals and Sectionals. This helped set high expectations for years to come in the cross country program.

The youngster certainly earned their rewards in practice.

"My favorite workout was the mile repeats," freshman Megan Desalvo said. "They were by far the toughest. After doing them you'd feel so much better and it would show when it came around to the race." The girls did many more intense workouts to help them increase their endurance level.

"Practice was always a tough workout. I noticed while running with the girls this year that they pushed a lot harder, and, as a result, we got more awards," said Assistant Coach Janeen Tomas.
