From first year runners to an experienced captain, pasta parties seem to be the highlight of each week for the girls cross country runners.
The night before each meet, the girls load up on the carbs to give them lots of energy for the upcoming race. Carbo-loads usually include salad, pasta, bread, and desserts.
"My favorite is the Oreo balls Deirdre (Rudolph) brings" junior Allie Thiel said.
"Since we get out food in order of the triangle, which is by age, we (seniors) eat really quickly so we can get seconds before the freshman get firsts," said senior captain Meagan DeSalvo.
All girls who are on the team were invited to the pasta parties, but unlike most pasta parties, the girls do much more than just eat. The girls just often sit around and talk, usually about Coach Gail Huster and her everlasting speeches. They also play on going games of mafia and ninja.
"The pasta parties are a blast, we're all like one big family and everyone really connects," senior Abby Lofgren said.
The team said the strong bonding that the girls created during the pasta parties really paid off during the races. The girls always have someone to rely on. The runners have built more than teammates; they made what seem to be lifelong friends.
"Cross Country is a really good group of girls; we all go together and really are one big groups of sisters," Thiel said.
