2005 Season

The girls cross country team placed third in conference, continuing the excellence they have maintained for years. According to Coach Lara Jarman, "Cross country is a physically and mentally challenging sport. For them to reach their full potential, support from teammates was vital."
Despite many key runners having injuries, several girls emerged to have outstanding seasons. This led to open opportunities for other runners to excel, including junior Lydia Wentland, who was voted varsity MVP, sophomore Maddie McGuire, who received the sportsmanship award, sophomore Maggie Dayhoff, who was voted most improved, and freshman Amanda Gauthier, who won a dual meet as a freshman against Proviso East.
Many accomplishments were achieved by the girls' team this year. Sophomore Paige Copeland made WSC All-Conference by placing thirteenth in conference. "I had a rough season, so it was more than I expected," Copeland said. "This proves that when you really strive for something, you can achieve it."
A big meet for the Hornets was the Minooka Invite, where they placed sixth out of seventeen teams. At Minooka, senior Danielle Mutters led the team with a time of 21:27 for three miles. Niles West was another successful tournament for the girl's team, placing seventh out of twenty-two overall. Lydia Wentland was the number one runner for the Hornets at Niles with a time of 20:45.
Regardless of the injuries the team experienced, they managed to make the best of it. The girls even traveled to downtown Chicago for practice to bond as a team. "This helped us take our mind off the hard season and work together to have a good time," senior Kim Johnson said.
