2022 Season

After almost making State in 2021, the Hornets looked to come back strong in 2022. Being placed in the toughest Sectional in the State did not help the team's prospects of qualifying for State, but it was a successful season regardless. 

At the Reavis Running Rams Invitational in early September, the varsity team placed third to earn a team plaque. This was the first time since 2017 the Hornets had won any team award at an invitation and the first time since 2010 since the varsity team had won an award.

There were a number of great individual performances during the season. Anna Wilcox earned her first high school win with her first place finish at the Pat Savage Invite. Tree Koepfle, Anna Frankel, and Andy Esposito all earned conference ribbons in their races. The varsity team saw Abby Petersen and Elena Garcia earn All-Conference honors with their 4th and 16th-place finishes. The varsity team also took third in conference behind Downers Grove South and Leyden.

Abby Petersen finished her high school career by qualifying for state for the fourth time. She is one of only four runners in Hinsdale South girls history to accomplish that feat. She also held the third-fastest P.R. in team history at the time of her last season with a time of 18:29. The state meet was windy, raining, and muddy. Were it not for the conditions, she would have most likely improved on that P.R.
